Greetings Psychedilophiles,
The Trip Report is back.
Psychedelics, as we all know are poised for a coming-out party and it’s going to be wild. I want to return to this project as a means of watching the unfolding over the next few years.
Plus #psychedlictwitter is so much more pleasant than any other space on the internet. People actually get along. Forgetaboutit over at #nutritiontwitter.
I’ll be trying a few things out with this iteration of The Trip Report so let me know what lands, what you don’t like and what you’d like to see.
I am also going to be launching The Trip Report Podcast. Keep your ears open.
peer to peer health education
There’s much to do about the role of psychedelic experience on things like PTSD, Depression and Anxiety. But an overlooked area of impact that psychedelics might have potential is in the treatment of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.
Comedian, Psychonaut, advocate, Actor, and creator of The Mushroom Cure, Adam Strauss announced that he’ll be sharing insight into psychedelics for OCD with others hoping to manage symptoms through free conference calls with those who are interested. If anyone knows Adam, please let me know, I’d love to interview him for the podcast.
Where’s The Money Lebowski
We’re really keen to see how the profits are allocated in this emerging industry. So when I see an article from The Economist with the headlines “Investors are hoping that psychedelics are the new cannabis. Are they high?” I know that others are also wondering how the chips will fall.
This piece, from what I could read before the paywall, focused on companies attached to big names like Compass Pathways and Peter Theil.
Windy City is about to Chill
Chicago looks to be following in the steps of Denver and Oakland to decriminalize psychedelics including mushrooms and other Entheogens.
It calls for support of the plant family, which includes “plants, fungi, and natural materials … that can inspire personal and spiritual well-being, can benefit psychological and physical wellness, and can reestablish human’s inalienable and direct relationship to nature.”
Chicago is not often thought of as a bastion of progressive politics so this comes as a surprise to many.
Nausea, Heartburn, Upset Stomach, Diarrhea….Mystical Experience
e. coli, the bacteria responsible for causing diarrhea, fever and vomiting can now also generate a Mystical Experience through the production of psilocybin.
Scientists at Miami University of Ohio have engineered e. coli bacteria with the genes from magic mushrooms in order to produce synthetic, organic Psilocybin.
The processes used by Usona and Compass to create the compound, while necessary for scientific study, are costly and the strict Good Manufacturing Processes (GMP) required by the FDA for clinical trials are not required for commercial production.
The synthesis in this way will be especially useful for companies going into the recreational market, if that if ever comes to fruition.
The scientists are looking for commercial partners to scale this process in preparation for commercial use.
